We aim to make our banking products and services better for the environment along with the value chain. So, what have we done until this year toward these goals?

BRI Menanam is one of BRI’s ESG initiatives in Environmental dimension.
Through BRI Menanam, BRI expects to be able to contribute in environmental conservation and community empowerment (social aspect).
BRI Menanam is expected to drive community involvement with BRI in economy, social, and environmental aspects.
BRI Menanam initiatives aims to increase the involvement of BRI employees, particularly our loan officer to raise awareness and encourage BRI customers to contribute to nurturing the planet.

BRI Greenhouse Gas Emission Calculation 2022
BRI participates in managing Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions produced from operational activities such as fossil fuel consumption, electricity consumption, business trip & paper usage. The emissions were calculated using The Global GHG Accounting and Reporting Standard, The Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials (PCAF) standards and Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi).

**Bankwide waste generation is extrapolated based on data on waste generation per employee at the BRI head office. Waste at the head office is sent to the landfill from January to July 2023 From August 2023 onwards, with the launch of the Zero Waste to Landfill program, all generated waste has been diverted from landfills through composting, recycling, and the RDF technology.
BRI's emission reduction efforts are also reflected in reduced electrical costs, the lower water and paper usage, as describes below:

BRI Green Operations
BRI realizes that the company's operational activities are one of the contributors to the formation of greenhouse emissions which can pollute the environment, therefore BRI seeks to continue to support emission reduction through several operational activity initiatives:
BRI Green Building & Green Office
BRILIAN Tower is 37th floor Building with the Green Building concept on Jl. Gatot Subroto Kav. 62 South Jakarta. BRILIAN Tower received a gold category greenship certificate from the Green Building Council Indonesia (GBCI).
Some of superior aspects in implementing green building at BRILian Tower include a green area of 1,356 m2 or equivalent with 11.05% of the total building area. Then, efficient resource with renewable technology, application of the zero run off concept in the aspect of rainwater conservation and management, material reuse & cycle which can save electricity consumption by 19.29% from conventional designs, and prominent management of building environment.
In addition, 8 BRI work units that spread across several regions, namely Bandung, Semarang, Jakarta, Malang and Yogyakarta, have used solar panels as an energy source.

Zero Waste to Landfill Program
As part of BRI’s Sustainability Strategy, BRI has a program called “Zero Waste to Landfill” Program that aims to eliminate or significantly reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfills by promoting waste reduction, recycling, composting, and other sustainable waste management practices in order to preserve the environment and support circular economy. The program includes establishing BRI digital and paperless ecosystem, strengthening employees’ sustainability culture, and partnering with third parties in handling waste.
BRI Digital & Paperless Operations
BRI continues to operational efficiency, while reducing paper use and paper waste, through digital transformation that the company continues to develop.
The following are several paperless applications developed by BRI:
- BRISPOT, a mobile app used by loan officers and loan approvers that allows loan application processes to be carried out online so that it is faster, easier, and paperless.
- BRIStars, an internal BRI app that includes e-office features as a means of online correspondence system and other employee menus.
- BRISMART, an online learning management system application used by BRI employees
Strengthening Employees’ Sustainability Culture
BRI has established Sustainability Culture Program which aims to strengthen employees; sustainability culture and increase employees’ awareness on sustainability issues.
This includes the appointment of BRI GREEN TEAM, consisting of selected employees who represent their work units in implementing green campaigns, including Zero Waste to Landfill Programs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) Energy Efficiency programs, and Paperless program.

Partnership in Handling Waste
BRI is partnering with third-parties in establishing integrated waste management system (including providing waste data), where waste will be reused, recycled, and rot, so that no waste ends-up in the final disposal site (landfill) and pollutes the environment.

BRI recognizes the urge to slow global warming to mitigate the effects of climate change. As Indonesia's first financial institution to commit to achieving the NZE target through Science Based Target Initiatives (SBTi), BRI actively supports and participates in associations which encourage industry to implement climate change mitigation initiatives.
